Revised Flood Studies
Revised Flood Study: Tara
We're inviting our Tara residents to review the existing flood study reports and share your valuable knowledge to make sure the new models match what really happens during flooding events.
Your input will help improve the accuracy of our flood modelling and maps - so please share rainfall records, experiences and photos of historic flood events.
We're looking for as much information as we can gather from the Tara community around any flooding events since 2014, which will be used as calibration events for the improved flood maps.
The updated model will connect the flood mark in the Tara Showgrounds toilet block with the gauge data from the Tara Lagoon water level station to ensure the December 2010 flood peak is referenced by the Tara Lagoon station to inform future events.
The revised study will also consider water movement from Tara Kogan Road, through the Tara township and into the Tara Lagoon Parklands.
Council is revising the Tara Flood Study to provide better understanding of flood behaviour throughout the Undulla Creek catchment, improve flood management and disaster response, and provide up-to-date information for infrastructure planning and land use.
The project is fully funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
