Revised Flood Studies
Revised Flood Study: Jandowae
We're inviting our Jandowae residents to review the existing flood study reports and share your local knowledge to make sure the new models match what really happens during flooding events.
Your input will help improve the accuracy of our flood modelling and maps - so please share rainfall records, experiences and photos of any historic flood events.
We're looking for as much information as we can gather from the Jandowae community around any flooding events since 2014, which will be used as a calibration event for the improved flood maps.
The updated model will also consider Jandowae Dam storage levels, what happens during significant rainfall events in Jandowae Creek's upstream catchment of around 220km² and data collected from the Jandowae Dam spillway gauge since it's installation in 2022.
Jandowae has an unfortunate history of riverine flooding from the Jandowae Creek catchment and flash flooding from localised heavy rainfall events and severe thunderstorms.
Flood events in the Jandowae township can develop rapidly in less than six hours when heavy rainfall is received in the upper catchment, so we need your help to make sure we get the new mapping right.
Council is revising the Jandowae Flood Study records taken from 2014 to provide better understanding of flood behaviour throughout the Jandowae Creek catchment, to improve flood management and disaster response, and provide up-to-date information for infrastructure planning and land use.
The project is fully funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
