Revised Flood Studies
Revised Flood Study: Wandoan
In July and August 2025, we asked Wandoan residents to review the existing flood study reports and share their local knowledge to make sure the new models match what really happens during flooding events.
This input will help improve the accuracy of new flood modelling and maps - and we'd like to thank everyone who shared local rainfall records, knowledge of previous flood experiences and photos of historic major rainfall events.
We're combining this important community feedback with data from the 23 river, rain and water level monitoring stations on and around the Charley's Creek catchment.
We'll also be combining your feedback with data from the Juandah Creek flood gauge at Windermere from 1973 through to present day.
Council is revising the Wandoan Flood Study to provide better understanding of flood behaviour throughout the Juandah Creek catchment, improve flood management and disaster response, determine the risk of rare flooding events, and provide up-to-date information for infrastructure planning and land use.
The revised models should be available for community feedback in November 2025 through a series of drop-in sessions.
This project is fully funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
Stantec has been engaged to deliver and coordinate the revised flood studies across the six Council areas.
