Revised Flood Studies

Revised Flood Study: Tara

In July and August 2025, we asked Tara residents to take a look at the existing flood study reports and share their local knowledge to make sure the new models match what really happens during flooding events.

This input will help improve the accuracy of new flood modelling and maps - and we'd like to thank everyone who shared local rainfall records, knowledge of previous flood experiences and photos of historic major rainfall events.

The updated model will connect the flood mark in the Tara Showgrounds toilet block with the gauge data from the Tara Lagoon water level station to ensure the December 2010 flood peak is referenced by the Tara Lagoon station to inform future events.

The revised study will also consider water movement from Tara Kogan Road, through the Tara township and into the Tara Lagoon Parklands.

Council is revising the Tara Flood Study to provide better understanding of flood behaviour throughout the Undulla Creek catchment, improve flood management and disaster response, and provide up-to-date information for infrastructure planning and land use.

The revised models should be available for community feedback in November 2025 through a series of drop-in sessions.

This project is fully funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Stantec has been engaged to deliver and coordinate the revised flood studies across the six Council areas.
