What the draft Biosecurity Plan means for the Western Downs

Over the course of our community biosecurity review, rural residents, primary producers, industry staff, and government employees across the Western Downs have shared their thoughts. Together, they painted a clear and candid picture of what matters when it comes to protecting our region from pest and disease threats.

Community insight has informed the Biosecurity draft Plan to evaluate its success in managing weeds and pest animals across the Western Downs and identify any gaps or weaknesses in the existing strategies.

Updating the biosecurity plan is also crucial to align with recent regulatory changes and best practices, ensuring that local strategies are robust and compliant.

This plan will place the region in an ideal position to better protect the local environment, agriculture, and economy from the adverse impacts of invasive species.
