Background

Western Downs Regional Council is developing a Public Art Strategy to guide the direction and progress of public art for our region.

The Western Downs is home to a vibrant arts community and unique public artworks that tell the story of who we are. We are a community proud of where we live, and want to showcase the public art we already have, and develop new public artworks and initiatives to further enhance the region.

The purpose of this strategy is to direct the development, care and promotion of public art across Western Downs by:

  • Improving and maintaining the existing public art across the region
  • Identifying opportunities for further development of public art
  • Identifying and highlighting economic development opportunities and tourism experiences for local artists, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople to attract tourists to the Western Downs
  • Developing a five-year Strategy and deliverable Action Plan drive delivery of a vibrant public art scene

Ensuring that the Strategy is developed through meaningful communications & community engagement, in line with Council's Corporate Plan. Council conducted stakeholder engagement to inform the strategy, with a series of sessions that take place from 17- 20 April 2023.
